The concept and thought behind designing Duet was for a client who wanted a sculpture that would not obstruct his “million dollar view”. He wanted a sculpture to be placed on his beach house deck. I designed the piece to have eye level openings so that the view would be minimally obstructed. Duet is a sculpture that was a natural evolution from Ball Tower. The original sculpture has a spider on one side & fly on the other. The two-tone columns have differing finishes on the stainless; giving it strong impact and helping to make it even more abstract. I really like to use these differing finishes to contrast and play off each other. I have echoed this in several different sculptures, including Away, 3 Cubes, Retro Tree, Joy, and Another Good Day. Although Duet is a strong piece, I don't make it as much as I would like due to the restricting logistics of moving such a large piece to art shows.
