Pendulum came about at the end of 2009, when the economy was in the midst of collapse. I needed a piece that I could do economically; keeping my costs low, thus having an ideal price point for clients. I needed something with clean simple lines, thus ensuring that I could keep both laser fee costs and welding time down as low as possible.
While the first impression of Pendulum is a relaxing, simple sculpture, it does have internal complexities with the moving pendulum action. It is a piece that looks amazing from a distance, and when viewed close really draws you in as you can interact and move the pendulum. There are also small bird cutouts on the insides of the ladder that give a good example of the craftsmanship of the piece. The Stainless Steel Rods that hold the Pendulum are a high quality accent that help to set the whole piece.
I am extremely happy with the overall allure of Pendulum. I think it is very fitting and appropriate that the driving force behind the design idea was economics and logistics of making a piece that can fall into a specific price point, and the end product is a timeless, classic piece which speaks to simpler times.
